Sony is preparing a new version of the PlayStation 5. Its model number was discovered in the databases of the US telecommunications commission. No improvement is expected in this version of the console. It would be a simple revision to integrate a new, more efficient WiFi module.
Throughout the life of the console, there will logically be several versions. Some will be very different from the original version ( Pro version, Lite version , etc. as with the PS4) and others will not be. These are variations that will benefit from some component adjustments. Their performance will therefore not be different. However, they will be identified with another serial number.
A NEW PS5 WITH A NEW, MORE EFFICIENT WIFI MODULE
And precisely, the number of one of these variations appeared in the database of the FCC (Federal Communication Commission), the American equivalent of the French ARCEP. This serial number is CFI-1115A . It was filed by Sony in April 2021. According to the leaker who unveiled this information on Twitter, this version of the PS5 will only be a minor variation of the console.
The only real change expected is a modification of a block that manages wireless connections (WiFi, Bluetooth). Depending on the source of this information, the serial number of the module in question is M20DAL1 . This new component will benefit from a new architecture for the antennas which will significantly improve the quality of the WiFi connection. Whether this setup improves flow rates, improves stability, or increases range is unknown. But, this connectivity should be more efficient. Sony will logically not announce the arrival of this version. It should replace the current models before the end of the year.
