TikTok officially announces the arrival of videos up to 3 minutes long. After a test phase of several months, the social network is rolling out the novelty to all users. So far, videos posted on the app couldn’t be longer than a minute.
TikTok announced the deployment of 3-minute videos to all users. As a reminder, the social network was already testing this novelty with a handful of Internet users since December 2020.
“We are introducing the ability for our global community to create longer videos […] Some of you may have come across a longer video on TikTok – we let creators around the world experiment with the expanded format” explains ByteDance, parent company of TikTok in a statement on its website.
TIKTOK ATTACKS YOUTUBE AND TRIPLES VIDEO LENGTH
Since its inception, TikTok limited the length of videos to one minute . This limitation has prompted Internet users to exploit the short format by providing as much information as possible during the allotted time. The short format, even ultra short for many videos, is part of the DNA of the social network.
According to the social network, the lifting of the 60 second limitation comes from a request from users . “We often hear from designers saying that they just wish they had a little more time to bring their cooking demonstrations, beauty tutorials, educational lessons and comedic sketches to life,” says TikTok. With this major change, TikTok aims to compete with the giant YouTube, whose videos posted by users know no time limits.
The 3 minute videos are currently being deployed. TikTok estimates that it will take several weeks for the option to become available to all users. “Once it’s available, you’ll receive a notification that longer videos are now part of your creative toolkit,” the statement said.
Either way, the 3-minute videos are about to shake up the way people view the app. What do you think of this change in size? Are you going to post longer videos on TikTok? We await your opinion in the comments below.
