Will the price of graphics cards ever drop? In any case, many RTX 3060s are found for sale in the Chinese market at very low prices. These are actually second-hand GPUs that come from mining farms that have become useless.
Since their release, RTX 30XX graphics cards have been both hard to find and overpriced. For example, the RTX 3060 is sold from 335 euros (price indicated on the Nvidia site), but can be displayed at a price twice as high on some merchant sites. A situation caused by the shortage of semiconductors but also by the existence of mining farms. However, The Block has noticed something very interesting. Many Nvidia graphics cards, and more particularly the RTX 3060, are now offered at discounted prices on Chinese online sales sites. They are even sold off between 290 euros and 380 euros. There was even a sale for 230 euros.
While these are used cards, they have never been sold at such low prices. The icing on the cake, many classified ads display photos with hundreds of GPUs lined up while finding even one for home use reveals an obstacle course.
RTX 3060S ARE SOLD AT A LOW PRICE BECAUSE THEY CAN NO LONGER SUPPLY MINING FARMS
This massive arrival of cards on the market is the consequence of the fall of Bitcoin but also and above all of the intervention of the Chinese government. Indeed, the authorities demanded from Sichuan province to cut off electricity to mining farms in order to annihilate the market. The fact is that this region is full of such establishments and they have no other choice but to relocate or go out of business. So, all of a sudden, we have an influx of used cards at bargain prices.
However, we should not immediately hope to see the situation unblocked for RTXs, especially in Europe. The semiconductor shortage is indeed not about to end, as some observers hope for a return to normal only in mid-2022.
